There is great apprehension in Ecuador about Pedro Pablo Perlaza. The 33-year-old right back, who currently plays for Delfín de Manta, was kidnapped a few hours ago in Esmeraldas, where he was after finishing the championship. Initial investigations revealed that Perlaza, together with a friend, was stopped by a motorcycle and then disappeared into thin air.
The National Police (in particular the Anti-Kidnapping and Extortion Unit) declared that it has begun investigative and operational work on this incident, to identify those responsible and find the two hostages. Drug traffickers could be involved: the Esmeraldas area is one of the most dangerous areas of the country, with an ongoing government war with organized and “specialized” crime in the sector.
Pedro Pablo Perlaza has played three matches in his career with the Ecuadorian senior national team, all under the guidance of Alfaro in the Qatar 2022 qualifiers.
