Ezio Capuanoformer coach of Taranto and Foggia, gave a long interview to Corriere dello Sporttackling several themes from his recent career. These are the most significant steps:
On the future – “I see matches and players, I try to keep up to date with my collaborators without sitting still. Today I would accept an important, strong team with a serious club. I don’t want to throw myself in, I’m waiting for a project capable of providing me with a notable jolt of adrenaline. Otherwise I might as well remain firm. My choice will be considered.”
Second place with Taranto – “Not just second place. We were penalized four points and had a budget ten times smaller than several teams that finished behind us. We made at least 6/7 capital gains, a very important factor for a company like a football club. I received several calls, which I spoke about with President Giove who rightly did not release me. I remained on the shores of the Ionian with great enthusiasm, I could never have imagined what happened instead.”
The farewell to the Ionian club – “I had built a very important team, the result of careful choices. Many chosen players now play in Serie B. I worked all summer to build a toy which then crumbled. The president’s disengagement, of which I was unaware, the failure to pay for the month of August, the penalties and the dismantling of the team. I couldn’t continue out of respect for a people who loved me. Seeing this situation hurts a lot, I hope that the corporate transfer takes place as soon as possible and that I can return The Taranto last year. Even though there were 500 people when I arrived, I brought back 10 thousand, recreating enthusiasm throughout the environment.”
Medical certificates – “I didn’t send the medical certificate for having missed some matches. I was really ill in that period. There has been a lot of speculation about this story, I can’t do anything about it if someone acted by sending them into other situations. I was stressed, I had responsibility for many guys that I had convinced to come to Taranto. With great honesty I tell you that the intention was not to continue. Economically, I wasted two years of my contract in Taranto and one in Foggia, something that no one in the world would have done.”
The experience in Foggia – “I strongly wanted Foggia, accepting without realizing the squad available. I would make that choice many times. Then I experienced the tragedy of the fans. I don’t regret anything, I lost the last match at the end but I had already chosen to resign between the first and second half.”
Problems in the locker room? – “There are no problems in my locker room, I’ve always been in charge. It’s all bullshit, if there had been a problem I would have brought it out. No coach can know what happens in his absence, but the players are like wild boars: united they become strong, if you take them one at a time they run away.”
