Triumphant success for Milan, which disintegrates Sassuolo 6-1 and secures the pass to the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup.
Milan spreads in a single half – Fonseca’s team starts off strong, wanting to attack and corner Sassuolo straight away. The Rossoneri immediately created their first scoring opportunities, with Loftus-Cheek particularly strong-willed, and in the 12th minute they were rewarded with the opening goal by Chukwueze. At that point Sassuolo’s banks collapsed and the Devil broke through in the following ten minutes. First the great protagonist of the last few weeks Reijnders rounds off with a powerful right-footed shot, then Chukwueze further enriches his personal tally by crossing left-footed to make it 3-0. And midway through the first half the 4-0 also arrived, with Leao also joining the party. Extremely hard blow for Grosso’s team, who at least managed not to suffer any further damage until the break arrived. Indeed, at the end of the first half he would even find the net with Antiste, but the possible 4-1 was canceled due to offside.
There is joy also for Calabria and Abraham – At half-time Fonseca made four substitutions, aware of the favorable situation that had been created. Relay even in goal: returning from the changing rooms it is the young Torriani and not Sportiello. At the tenth minute of the second half the gap between the two teams widens further: Pulisic hits the post with a cross-shot, on the rebound comes Captain Calabria who flat-footed the ball into the net to make it 5-0. Three more turns of the clock and Sassuolo scores the classic winner, with Mulattieri taking advantage of Torriani’s uncertainty. The 5-1, however, does not last long, three minutes and the score changes again, taking on tennis match proportions. If it had been, it would have been the first set for Milan when Abraham rightly scored the 6-1. The second round of 16 of the Italian Cup has never had a history, Milan overpowers and in the quarter-finals they will face the winner between Roma and Sampdoria.
