Chelsea, Maresca: “The fight for the title doesn’t concern us, at least not for this year”

Speaking today at a press conference on the eve of the match against Southampton, in the midweek round of the Premier League, Enzo Maresca he spoke like this about the next match and the Blues’ chances of fighting for the title: “It was the worst match since the beginning of the season and it will be the most difficult match so far. We must be ready, otherwise it will be a bad day for us. Looking at the results, you can see they are there. They beat Liverpool, only lost 1-0 against City and drew with Brighton. Their style of play is clear: they are courageous, they want possession, just like us very hard.”

The knowledge of the Sants goes back a long way: “The way they played last year, when they were in Serie B, I know them quite well. They are really courageous and it is very clear what they want: the ball and to keep it often, which however we want too.”

Maresca preferred to fly low on the title race: “Arsenal have been close to City in the last two years, while we are still far away. Being in the title race is positive pressure, it’s certainly not the kind of expectation that doesn’t you would like to have, but that’s not the case for us this year. We hope to be there soon.”
