Totti takes sides: “I would see Del Piero as FIGC president. An important and clean character”

An important endorsement arrives from Francesco Totti for Alessandro Del Pieroregarding the hypothesis of a candidacy for FIGC president. “I would see Del Piero as president of the Football Federation,” the former Roma captain said exclusively to Sportmediaset: “We all know that he is a significant character, let’s see what will happen – underlined Totti at the finals of the World Legends Padel Tour underway in Dubai -. I am happy for him if he were to decide to take this important step. Naturally I would like figures who understand football to become part of such important institutions. Alex can do everything because he is an important and clean character. He will decide and we will obviously have my vote without taking anything away from whoever occupies that position at the moment.”

Own Alessandro Del Pieropresent yesterday in the studios of Sky Sportsspoke about the rumors that he would be a possible candidate for the presidency of the FIGC: “The situation is very simple. I didn’t get up in the morning and decide to run, also because the candidacy has to be brought by someone. Nobody asked me to fill this role, if they don’t invite you, it’s not like you can present yourself. I’m fine where I am, I’m an open and available person, I like to inform myself and update myself. But such a situation must be taken into consideration with a different team spirit . I was compared to one fringe, against another but I’m not that kind of person. One man doesn’t change the dynamics, ever, there must be a team, especially in the FIGC in this case we should sit at a table and talk about it, to understand certain dynamics. To date there is nothing concrete. In the past I also had to talk about the candidacy for another presidency (Juventus ed.) but there is none. it was nothing real. None of the FIGC members nominated me.”

In the meantime Gabriele Gravina has decided to run again for the presidency of the FIGC. He said it himself in an interview given to Corriere della Sera: “I am running again. It was not an easy decision, but a very thoughtful one. Certain forms of aggression that I have received in recent weeks, and which are unprecedented in a civilized country like Italy, have not prevented me from moving forward. Yes everything is done to persuade me not to run. I am respectful of the laws and I am ready to submit to the judgement Italian justice. However, everything that is happening to me is unheard of. The Perugia Prosecutor’s Office, the investigating judge and the Rome Review Board certify that I have been the victim of illicit dossier activities carried out by people who have ill will towards me media process which leaves me very perplexed”. Finally, on the name of Alessandro Del Piero, who emerged as a possible challenger, Gravina remained cautious: “I won’t go into the merits. Alex was a great champion, he gave a lot to world football and to the blue shirt. I tried to involve him in the Federation , but his commitments have always taken him far. But you need someone to stand for you and this applies to him too.”
