21.03 – Igor Jovicevic’s press conference has begun
Was it the match you had prepared?
“From the first to the last second the team did what we had prepared for this match, we had prepared it well by controlling the match leaving little space for a team that knows how to hurt you. We tried to exploit all the spaces in the open field, marking dangerous players like Marusic and Guendouzi as much as possible. We had personality in managing the ball, making Lazio’s pressing difficult. I am proud of what the team has done, it increases our confidence and allows us to look to the future with more enthusiasm It’s like a victory.”
How proud does this draw make you?
“We worked well without the ball, putting Lazio in difficulty. We had to manage many details on a defensive level, several Italian teams are used to playing man-to-man like Monza and Atalanta. We decided not to play man-to-man, trying to remain very compact at defensive level. The movements of Marusic, Guendouzi and Pedro between the lines could have bothered us, but we managed them quite well and I don’t remember any great occasions for Lazio.”
Can you tell us your opinion on the penalty not given to Isaksen? How important was Naressi for your game?
“I haven’t seen the episode yet, I can’t talk about what happened. Naressi played an extraordinary game, he’s a great player and allows us to play with both a two-man midfield and a three-man midfield, he manages to hold control of the midfield. He often lowered himself creating a five-man defense on crosses from the wingers, I think it was one of the best games of his career.”
What are you missing to win your first match in this Europa League?
“The level of this club is very high, for us today’s game is comparable to a Champions League match. We have to grow, we are doing it week after week, we are a family and we demonstrated it today by fighting for the whole match. With Bilbao we played 4-4-2, today 4-1-4-1 and we fought the same way. We are improving a lot and in the last few games we deserved more, the three points will come soon. I wanted to win today, I wanted to come to Rome and take home the three points, but I know that will come. I’m proud of how the team fought today.”
Is this the version of the team you prefer?
“We are on the right path, a match like today gives us great confidence for the future. We have yet to see the real Ludogorets, the best is yet to come.”
