Final result: Young Boys-Atalanta 1-6
YOUNG BOYS (Edited by Lorenzo Carini)
Von Ballmoos 4 – Clearly messed up during De Ketelaere’s second goal, giving way to the Nerazzurri’s goal. This Young Boys team concedes an avalanche of goals in the Champions League: seventeen in five games.
Blum 5 – Atalanta prefers to push on the opposite side of the pitch, the yellow and black number 27 thus spends a calmer evening than his teammates but still insufficient: it is a collective shipwreck.
Room 4 – The yellow and black central defenders are almost always out of position and Atalanta, as an excellent team, is always good at taking advantage of this. The Guinean was burned at speed by Retegui in the opening goal, then deflected De Ketelaere’s shot, sending his goalkeeper out of action for the fifth goal of Gasperini’s men.
Lauper 4 – First he is imprecise in his marking on De Ketelaere, then he concedes the “encore” with a blue pencil for Retegui’s 1-4: he has on his conscience (at least) two of the many goals conceded this evening by the Swiss team.
Hadjam 4 – Suffers tremendously from the incursions of Cuadrado and De Ketelaere: in constant difficulty from the first minute, he never manages to find a solution to get out of the tunnel. From 78′ Athekame sv
Ugrinic 5.5 – He struggles a lot in midfield, but it should have been taken into account. However, he can partially smile for the nice assist scored by the flag for Ganvoula’s momentary equalizer.
Niasse 5 – Not received in the middle. Atalanta does what it wants, travels at supersonic speed and for the Young Boys players it is total suffering.
Lakomy 5 – The same opinion expressed for Niasse applies. A poor evening to say the least, which ended after just forty-five minutes. From 46′ Males 5.5 – He has no way of impacting the match during the second half: he enters with the result already largely compromised, he tries and finds some good plays but it can’t be enough to overturn it.
Colley 5 – Ex from the race, perhaps the most important event of the season for him is a no-no. He doesn’t make a great impression in front of Gasperini and the team he grew up with. From 46′ Virginius 5.5 – Among the candidates for a starting shirt, he was excluded from the starting eleven and only took over in the second half… with the match now in the archive.
Ganvoula 5.5 – Take advantage of the only flaw in Hien’s sumptuous performance to head Carnesecchi for the temporary 1-1. For the rest, he was limited perfectly by the Swedish defender. From 60′ Itten 6 – Magnin plays all the cards available in the second half, the Swiss would also have the qualities to impose himself but the problem is that there is no one capable of supporting his plays.
Monteiro 4.5 – He only touches a handful of balls, mostly in the first minutes of the match, then disappears completely from the radar. From 66′ Elijah 6 – The time available to him is what it is, but it would also be enough to make an impact. In reality, however, the Congolese was only seen for a yellow card for a foul on Cuadrado.
Joel Magnin 4 – Sieve defense and too light attack, a lethal mix. If you then add that Gasperini’s Atalanta is on the other side of the pitch, the disaster can be considered total. This defeat, the fifth in five games, effectively marks the early elimination from the Champions League for the yellow and blacks, who are not having a good moment even in the championship.
ATALANTA (Edited by Pierpaolo Matrone)
Carnesecchi 6 – Not flawless on the occasion of Young Boys’ goal and also with his feet in the second half, but when the result was now achieved.
Kossounou 6.5 – A solid performance, enhanced by the assist (which perhaps due to a deviation will not be counted as such) from the back heel for the 2-1 by de Ketelaere.
Hien 6 – He was the one who was anticipated by Ganvoula’s break in the 1-1 draw at Young Boys, but a venial sin in light of the result. His presence in the middle of the defense is always important, so much so that for the rest of the match he risks nothing. From 80′ Godfrey sv
Kolasinac 7.5 – The English would say ‘Working Class Hero’ and maybe some Arsenal fans really think so. As a defender, he rushes to the edge of offside and scores a goal like a true number 9, remaining very cool face to face with the goalkeeper. From 75′ Toloi sv
Square 7 – He is preferred to Bellanova and repays Gasperini with an excellent all-round performance. Inexhaustible for 90 minutes, as if he didn’t even feel the 36 years of his identity card. He also came close to scoring in the first half and for the great performance he would have deserved it.
De Roon 6.5 – We certainly don’t discover his charisma today, but in the moment of difficulty in the first half he is the one who tries to take the team by the hand.
Pasalic 6.5 – He doesn’t start very well, then he enters the game and takes over with his tactical intelligence. Also on the scoresheet is the assist for
Ruggeri 6 – The usual running test, in both phases, to punctually accompany the action.
Brescianini 6 – Gasperini deploys him again as an attacking midfielder. In general the contribution is positive, a lot is spent, but the feeling is that when you decentralize it is a little more difficult. From the 63rd minute Samardzic 7 – There is glory for him too in the finale. Because with that left foot there, with that elegance there, the Champions League fits perfectly for him too. His goal is beautiful and well deserved.
De Ketelaere 9 – The perfect match, the match of his life, probably the best performance of his career. Two goals, one better than the other, and three noteworthy assists. He skips over his opponents like skittles, always finds himself in the right place and finds his teammates on time with precise turns. Welcome to the CDK show. From 75′ Palestra sv
Retegui 8 – In four games before tonight, Serie A’s top scorer had not clocked in. Tonight he finally unlocks himself and becomes Europe’s striker too: after unlocking himself, he enjoys it and even scores a brace. Who knows if Arsenal, who he was linked to just today, have observed him because if they did Gasperini might also be worried, given that he would be fine there too. From 63′ Zaniolo 6 – He comes in when Atalanta is in management and doesn’t find the flash, but his does.
Gian Piero Gasperini 8 – If he decided to declare war on a nation, we are sure that the whole team would follow him there too, even in the trenches. His boys are memorized and for a coach there is no greater satisfaction. We certainly don’t discover the quality of his work today, but it is sublimated by yet another collective performance at the limits of perfection. Maestro Gasp is studied throughout Europe and now enchants even in the highest continental competition.
