Mourning in the world of football. Mario Valeri, former player of Fiorentina, Torres, Lazio, Cagliari and Salernitana, has died at the age of 75 after a short illness. The Sardinian club itself, in breaking the news, dedicated a thought to him on social media: “Cagliari Calcio mourns the passing of Mario Valeri, Sardinian, originally from Sorso, who made over 140 appearances for the rossoblù from ’73 to ’78. The Club he gathers affectionately around his family. Hi Mario.”

Having grown up in Sorso’s youth team, he was noticed by Fiorentina, who added him to the first team. Torres managed to sign him in 1970: after three excellent seasons on the Acquedotto field, during which he was also sent on trial with Lazio, he moved to Cagliari and was Gigi Riva’s “squire” in the last years of his career of Thunderclap. In 1978 he moved to Salernitana, where he played for two years before ending his career in the island’s amateur championships.
