The Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui spoke to Sky Sports in view of this evening’s Champions League match against Young Boys on the synthetic pitch in Bern. The Italian-Argentine center forward started with the European goal which still hasn’t arrived despite the extraordinary start from the scoring point of view: “We hope it can arrive this evening… I’m calm, it’s a team effort, we’re doing very well both in Italy and in Europe and we have to continue like this, continuing to play this football. Then I hope that my goal in Europe can arrive tonight.”
How do you move forward without thinking about the ranking?
“We must continue like this, we are doing a lot of work with humility and feet on the ground. Tomorrow it is important for us to win, we will give everything and always with the same mentality”.
How does football change from Italy to Europe?
“A little space… In the Champions League we find teams that are a little more open, but we play in the same way both in Italy and in Europe. We have to be ready for tomorrow because we have to win and bring home the 3 points.”
Will Bern’s synthetic change anything?
“I don’t know… We trained for two days on synthetic surfaces, but that won’t be an excuse. On the pitch we’re 11 against 11 and we have to continue doing what we’re doing. Let’s play without excuses and bring home the victory. Young Boys is a strong team that needs points, but we will think about ourselves, about what we are doing and learning from the mistakes of previous games.”
