Manchester United have serious doubts about the validity of their summer signing Joshua Zirkzee. Just four months after his 40 million euro transfer from Bologna, some managers regretted the investment made, considering Zirkzee – we read in the Manchester Evening News – not good enough to be the starting striker for the Red Devils. So far, on the other hand, the Dutchman has only scored one goal with his new shirt.
Zirkzee, 23, was left out of the Netherlands’ squad for last week’s Nations League win against Georgia, while he started against Bosnia. The striker’s only goal for United, in his 17 competitive appearances, came on his Premier League debut against Fulham on the opening weekend.
Today in the press conference, United manager Ruben Amorim spoke like this: “We must work together and to do this we must improve the recruitment process: the data and the profile of the players we want must all be analyzed together. I must have a strong position on this because I am the coach and I know how to play. It’s all together, we are a team, but the coach should have the final say, not only because it is my right but because it is my responsibility, since in the end it is up to me. who will demand results.”
