The famous British auction house Sotheby’s has announced the sale of “24 cabinets used by football icons such as Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Sergio Ramos, Luis Figo, Karim Benzema and many others.”
The auction began on November 12 and will last several weeks. Each of these lockers, dismantled with the renovation of the Santiago Bernabeu, bears the photo, name and number of the most important players who wore the glorious Real shirt in the era of Galacticos and in the most recent one. Individual auctions started at 10,000 pounds (13,000 euros).
Sotheby’s has offices in major cities around the world such as New York, Hong Kong, Madrid, Paris, Geneva, Milan, Amsterdam, Doha, Zurich and Toronto. The dressing room of the old Santiago Bernabeu saw 544 matches Blancos in over 20 years; in this period Real has won twenty titles, including six Champions Leagues and six Spanish championships. A three-metre wide mosaic of the Santiago Bernabéu and the stadium’s metal doors will also be auctioned, priced at £12,000 and £8,000 respectively. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Real Madrid Foundation.
