Genoa, the Vieira era begins: the images of the Frenchman who arrived in the city. Now sign and train

After greeting Gilardino, the Genoa is ready to start again from Patrick Vieira. The French coach, in fact, arrived at Genoa airport only a few minutes ago: the training initially scheduled for the morning, remember, was moved to the afternoon to allow Vieira himself to sign the contract and be ready to direct it. A two-year deal is ready for Vieira with an option for a third year (in the contract there will also be a clause (valid for both parties) to possibly separate at the end of this season).

Here are the images from TMW with the arrival of Patrick Vieira in Genoa:

Gilardino’s dismissal
This is Genoa’s statement regarding Gilardino’s dismissal: “Genoa CFC announces that Alberto Gilardino has been relieved of his duties. The club thanks Mr. Gilardino for the goals achieved together over the years and wishes him the best for his career”.

Vieira’s career
The Frenchman, 48 years old, former midfielder in Italy for Milan, Juve and Interso far in his career he has coached the youth teams of Manchester City (the last club where he played), then New York City, Nice (with Balotelli in the team), Crystal Palace and Strasbourg.

The transition from playing football to coaching took place in Manchester: stopped wearing the Manchester City shirt, he played various youth roles for the club from 2011 until 2015. In January 2016 he had his first experience as a ‘senior’ coach, in MLS with New York City, always from the same group. So the two most significant periods of his career so far: the two-year period from summer 2018 to December 2020 in Nice (89 games with a points average of 1.42) and the almost completed period from summer 2021 to March 2023 at the helm of Crystal Palace in the Premier League (74 games, 1.22 points per game on average). His latest adventure saw him in action in France, for the 2023/24 season in which he led Strasbourg to 13th place in the Ligue 1 table, before saying goodbye in mid-July in disagreement with the Alsatians’ club. Now Genoa awaits him and his first adventure as a Serie A coach, the championship he has always aimed for.
