FIFA and UEFA do not change their minds: Russia still excluded from international tournaments

Still nothing to do for Russia’s return to major football. According to reports from Match TV in fact, FIFA and UEFA have no intention of taking a step back from the decision to exclude the Russian Football Federation (RFU) from international football. A decision taken a few weeks after the start of the conflict in Ukraine and maintained throughout these thousand days of war.

The Russian national team will therefore not be present in the draw for the qualifying groups for the 2026 World Cup which will be held in Central and North America (United States, Canada and Mexico) and the club teams will remain out of the European cups again next season as happened in the last two years.

A decision, that of the two highest football authorities, which contrasts with the continuous postponements of the requests, made by the Palestinian Football Federation, to exclude the Israel Football Federation from what is happening in the Middle East – with continuous bombings for over 13 months not only in Gaza, but also in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq – which currently continues to play international matches at both club and national level with FIFA having repeatedly postponed a decision on the subject.
