The “City of Arezzo” changes face: first project in Italy with the new law on stadiums

It was officially presented this morning in the Sala Rosa of the Palazzo Comunale by SS Arezzo the project for the city’s new stadium, the first in Italy to be entirely conceived according to the updates of the new 2021 stadium law. This legislation simplifies and facilitates sports clubs, speeding up the procedures for the construction of new facilities.

During the same morning, the financial plan and the Feasibility Document of Project Alternatives (Docfap) were also deposited at the competent municipal offices, on which the Administration will have to express itself through a preliminary services conference, in order to decree the public interest of the proposal.

The new stadium will be built on the ashes of the current “City of Arezzo”: the demolition and reconstruction of the two curves and the “Maratona” grandstand are planned, while the central grandstand will be subject to redevelopment.
The work program involves construction in three phases, with the central stand which will remain in use during the works, thus allowing home matches to be played and the fans’ support to continue to be offered to the team.

The expected capacity is 12,506 seats, all covered, with an estimated total cost of approximately 28 million euros, entirely paid by the SS Arezzo.
It is a structure designed according to the most modern standards of sustainability and urban integration, with a significant production of clean energy. The complex also includes the construction of commercial spaces and offices, as well as large green spaces and areas serving the community.
An innovative structure which, while respecting tradition, presents itself as the new hub of the city’s sports district.

“A modern and intelligent project, whose phased programming will allow the continuous usability of the system. The Company evidently has the resources to make this undoubtedly significant investment, intended to qualify a part of the city. The municipal administration can only fully support a project that will give a modern stadium to a modern city, with sporting aspirations that could not be satisfied with the current structure, now old and inadequate”, declared the mayor Alessandro Ghinelli.

“For us this is a historic day and I don’t hide my emotion. I believe it is the unequivocal signal of the bond we have created with this city, to which we want to offer a great opportunity for growth, not only on a sporting level, but also in terms of urban planning and environmental issues. I thank the architects who took care of the project, enhancing these aspects in an excellent way”, commented the president of SS Arezzo, William Manzo.

“Today is a special day, which I hope will be remembered as the first of a fundamental path for the development of football in the city of Arezzo. The poor infrastructure for sports is one of our country’s Achilles’ heels. It is therefore essential to welcome and support far-sighted entrepreneurs who want to invest in this sector. Another important aspect is the full harmony between the Company and the local administrations.
This project, inspired by the most modern standards of sustainability and urban integration, I trust can represent a guarantee of success for the city of Arezzo and for the whole of Italian football”, declared the president of the FIGC, Gabriele Gravina.

“Arezzo, thanks to its ownership, has fully grasped what we are trying to achieve as a League. With this project, the club proves to be in step with the times, setting itself the goal of becoming a point of reference for the city and for the fans. Investing in infrastructure means generating value, attractiveness and creating the ideal conditions for the development of footballers and the growth of young people. This is definitely the right path to follow. Congratulations to the Manzo family”, underlined the president of the Lega Serie C, Matteo Marani.
