The sporting director of Atalanta U23 Fabio Gatti spoke to the microphones of TMW during the Grand Gala of Italian Football taking place this evening in Latina: “It is a very positive moment, I believe that last year was extraordinary due to probably unrepeatable results, but the Percassi family works with foresight and great passion and I believe that in recent years Atalanta has won many trophies even if some are invisible. – continues Gatti – The Europa League? It was a good message for all of Italian and European football. A team like Atalanta that reaches the top of Europe is an example for all teams, also for the way in which it got thereand we are lucky to be able to work within this club which gives us the right stimuli to work at our best.”
Then there is room for the project of the second team: “The project is one of the projects that the Percassi family cares a lot about, it is a very important project that allows us to valorise the players who come out of our youth sector and make them take that last step before compete with the greats. We are in the second year and it is still early to take stock, we still have a lot to do, but we hope to soon be able to give the kids the tools they need to develop themselves. – Gatti continues – We had the fortune and skill of choosing a coach who knows how to enhance young people, the sporting results have been positive, but we care more about the growth of the kids. That is our pride, the pride of the Percassi family and we hope to be able to continue on this path to obtain the best results for the kids.”
Finally, a thought on the difficulties of combining high expectations and top championships with the inclusion of promising young players in the first team: “Perhaps the bar has been raised externally, while we have our feet firmly planted on the ground, we know what they are our objectives which concern more the daily than the long term. Atalanta will continue to focus on youth sector players. Scudetto? It’s more difficult, but it’s something that you think and not us. After Carnesecchi, Ruggeri and Scalvini we will bring other young people from our youth sector into the first team.”
