Umberto Calcagno, president of the Italian Footballers’ Associationspoke to the media present (including us at TMW) on the sidelines of the presentation of the AIC Football Grand Gala, which will be held on 2 December: “It is a very beautiful moment, in which the spectacle of our world is celebrated. It is something that puts us in a good mood and which serves to enhance the good things happen.”
The protagonists give each other prizes.
“It’s also fun to see how there are discussions even within the teams. Never before this year will the final results of the votes be more at stake than in previous years.”
You have still encountered the problem of too crowded calendars.
“The situation has now become gangrenous, it will be difficult to get out of it. Imagine the season of the Inter and Juve players, between clubs and national teams they will pass from one year to the next. And this creates damage to the show: one cannot imagine that at the sixtieth a player has the same performance as someone who has played twenty. We safeguard the health but also the spectacle of a product that otherwise will be less beautiful than what we are used to seeing.”
