Carmine Gautieri and Taranto: it’s goodbye. The parties have reached an agreement for the separation. Gautieri leaves after having made an impact on the team and after having experienced a complicated situation not only on the pitch but also in the management of ordinary administration. The now former Taranto coach talks to TuttoMercatoWeb.com about waiting to start again with a new opportunity.
Gautieri, it’s over between you and Taranto.
“We reached an agreement with the company for a consensual resolution and said goodbye. It was an important experience among many difficulties, I arrived there when the team was made up of guys with no training on their legs so normal difficulty. Over time the team was growing. I wasn’t just a coach but I tried to help the boys from a mental point of view and there was a great relationship with them.”
You had arrived on the recommendation of Fabrizio Lucchesi who left Taranto in mid-October.
“He called me to ask me if I was available, announcing the possibility of a corporate change. So I accepted. We met again after thirty years for a month and a half, but that was it.”
What relationship did you have with the company?
“I had a great relationship with Campbell and Roberto Ciccioli. Campbell has ideas and I hope he can take the reins of all of Taranto soon. Ten days ago I had a health problem and he was close to me, he tried to convince me to stay but I preferred to end the relationship.”
Why do you and Taranto separate?
“The conditions were no longer there. Notwithstanding that I had a physical problem. I lived two intense months trying to put myself first in every situation. I preferred to move on.”
During his experience he experienced a retirement – that of Lores Varela who is studying to be a sporting director – and the farewell of Ardizzone who went to Guidonia where the transfer director is Lucchesi.
“I start with Lores Varela: when he told me he wanted to retire to start a new path I was sorry, I had the pleasure of meeting a real man and a very serious professional. As for Ardizzone, nothing was communicated to me and he left.”
Now it’s time to get back on track…
“I’m ready. Within a fortnight I’ll be back walking around the fields again and as soon as I can I’ll see some training sessions. I will definitely go and see Mister Ranieri, who I am very close to: he is the right person for everyone, not just for Roma. Italian football has found a respectable, valid, correct person. I was lucky enough to have him as a coach and he is a wonderful person.”
