Milan, Calabria captain not player: no renewal, at the end of the season it will be goodbye

From 2013 onwards, i.e. from the end of the Ambrosini era which followed those of Paolo Maldini and Franco Baresi, the Napoli captain ultimately ended up not playing. Or to play a little. The last to close the circle of this latest negative tradition of the Rossoneri captains is Davide Calabria. Product of the academy from 2007 to 2015, the year of his definitive arrival in the first team, Calabria inherited a troubled side after Romagnoli’s departure in 2022.

Dedication and sense of belonging have never been lacking, performances have been a continuous up and down. In recent years he has always been a starter, even if at times Pioli preferred Florenzi, at others Kalulu. Calabria has always moved forward on his path, the right-wing one, always questioning himself, from Abate to Emerson Royal. As captain he played 79 games, scoring 2 goals and 9 assists.

Today the former Tottenham player took the place of the ’96 class – who recently returned due to a calf problem – who at the end of the season, barring any surprises, will leave on a free transfer. The agreement on a hypothetical renewal has not been reached with Milan and Fonseca for now gives confidence in the Brazilian full-back, despite less than impeccable performances at the start of the season.
