After the dismissal of Julien Stéphan, Rennes entrusted the bench to Jorge Sampaoli. Having arrived in Brittany with three assistants, the Argentine coach will have to quickly find a solution to get the club out of the current crisis. To lift Rennes from 13th place in the table, the new manager would have asked for two reinforcements in the winter transfer window.
According to information from Globo Esporte, the first would be one of his protégés, as well as an old acquaintance from Serie A: Gersonalready brought to Marseille in July 2021 before also finding him again at Flamengo in 2023. There is still no offer for the former Roma and Fiorentina player, under contract until December 2027. Marseille bought him for almost 20 million euros but the midfielder did not leave an indelible memory in Ligue 1: 13 goals and 10 assists in 61 games in all competitions, then the sale for 15 million euros after Sampaoli’s departure.
The other name mentioned by the Brazilian press is another Flamengo player, the defender Fabricio Bruno: 28 years old, the central defender was called up to the Seleçao for the first time in March 2024. Rennes already wanted him in the summer but the 14 million proposal was rejected by the Rio de Janeiro club.
