Sala: “San Siro is a divisive issue, it’s impossible to get everyone to agree but decisions have to be made”

The issue linked to San Siro continues to take center stage, a very thorny case. On the sidelines of the inauguration of the academic year of the Bicocca University of Milan, the mayor Giuseppe Sala he expressed his opinion on the protests by some representatives of civic and environmentalist committees which took place yesterday in the City Council when the discussion on the stadium was underway: “Whoever was in the Chamber yesterday was there to protest – he began as reported by colleagues from Football and Finance – it is within their rights but let’s not confuse who was in the Chamber with the citizens’ opinion.

I wouldn’t make this mistake. Those who protested yesterday were prepared, they didn’t listen to my words, they had a pre-conceptual position, which I respect, but I’m trying to do everything possible to defend the public interest. I know it’s a divisive issue, getting everyone to agree is humanly impossible, but decisions have to be made.”

The mayor of the Lombardy capital then expressed his opinion on the destination of the funds obtained from the possible sale of the “Giuseppe Mezza” stadium: “I hope that the city council will take charge of this issue – concluded Sala -. I would gladly accept their suggestion, mine is to allocate them to the territory, to the area and to the weakest groups if they can give an indication”.
