The coach casting continues at Roma two days after the Friedkins’ decision to sack Ivan Juric a few minutes after the final whistle of Roma-Bologna, a match that ended 2-3. One of the strong candidates at the moment is Vincenzo Montella, Turkey’s current coach. The ‘Corriere dello Sport in its online version confirms that in the contract between the airline and the Turkish federation there is a clause that would allow him to free himself and explains that it involves the payment of six months’ salary.
After the defeat against Bologna, this is how sporting director Ghisolfi expressed himself on the choice of the new coach in the press conference: “We are looking towards the future but now we must regain our composure and make clear choices. As far as the Friedkins are concerned, this remains a long-term project. At this moment we must assume our responsibilities. We are working and the owners are trying to get out of this difficult moment. Situations like these can happen, look at Napoli last year. We are committed to a long-term project. We have to win.”
On that occasion, after that match lost 3-2, Ivan Juric was sacked with this statement: “We want to thank Ivan Juric for his hard work over the last few weeks. He has handled a difficult environment with the utmost professionalism, and for this we are grateful. We wish him all the best for his future. The search for a new head of technical flight has already started and will be announced in the next few days”.
