David De Gea, the best goalkeeper in the championship. Relaunched after a year of darkness

Focus TMW

The date of David De Gea’s Epiphany is October 6th, just over a month ago. Because on that day it was understood that Fiorentina probably had the best goalkeeper in Serie A, certainly the one with the longest CV, full of victories and recognitions, who many however now considered finished, having come to Italy to spend the winter. This is not the case for the Spanish number one who, instead, after a year of retirement (not forced but chosen) left the cradle of the Renaissance to seek a second youth. Or, more likely, a challenge that could lead him to play for Europe – again – as well as a top championship, in an ambitious team that chose him as the starter.

It took a little longer than expected, because Terracciano had buried all the competitors. But once he took charge, De Gea never gave it up. Extraordinary saves, an exiting confidence between the posts that is practically unsurpassed. Manchester United fans were surprised because he also saved two penalties. It was perhaps the best – and unexpected – business card to have the spotlight on him again. He has a one-year contract, but if Fiorentina were to unilaterally extend it it will rise to 2 million euros net per season.
