SOS Spurs, Postecoglou: “Serious injury for Richarlison. Son? We don’t want any relapses”

At -3 from third place in the Premier League, the Tottenham corsaro does not intend to settle. In his second season on the Spurs bench Ange Postecoglou he aspires to a trophy, as well as to the top levels of the championship. And regarding the current position in the table, in view of the easy match against Ipswich, he explained: “The road ahead is still very long and for us the important thing is to continue to progress as we have done so far. Our football for the most part it’s been pretty consistent, pretty good. Obviously we’ve had a few hiccups along the way. In that context I think we’re making progress and we’ll continue to do so, because in the end it matters where we will be in the end of the season”.

The Greek but naturalized Australian coach then turned to the captain Heung-min Son and his condition: “As I said, Sonny had an injury, we brought him back on the pitch – said Postecoglou in the press conference – and in the first game he had a relapse. We don’t want to put him in that position. We are managing his playing time and making him grow. At the weekend he played 55 minutes, last night (against Galatasaray, ed.) he played 45. Let’s hope we can help him improve. We hope to recover it and keep it. We can’t afford any more injuries in that position. We can’t afford to lose another player.”

As for the Europa League commitment yesterday and tomorrow conditions of the rest of the teamthe Spurs manager revealed: “Last night I think everyone came out of this situation unscathed. So everyone from last night should be ready to go. Cristian Romero is the one we’ll see how it goes. Today and tomorrow we will train and have a choice over him.”

Finally an update on Richarlison’s condition: “I’m very disappointed, I said this ahead of last week, we tried to have a different approach. He worked very hard on rehab and not just rehab but overall fitness. He was doing everything right. We let him play calmly again, trying not to overload him, but unfortunately he broke again. Richarlison will be out for a significant period of time. It’s a serious hamstring injury. He’s disappointed, but in the end we just have to keep working with him to get him back fit because he’s an important player.”
