After Lazio’s 7-2 win against Como, the program of the round of 16 of the Women’s Italian Cup was completed by the victories of Roma, Napoli, Fiorentina, Inter, Milan, Sassuolo and Juventus, who qualified thanks to yesterday’s success to the next round, scheduled for January with home and away matches.
The day opened with a 6-0 victory for the Giallorossi on the Bologna pitch, with the holders of the trophy scoring with six different players. In the first half the goals came from Glionna and Dragoni, in the second half those from Kumagai, Corelli, Haavi and Greggi. Fiorentina and Napoli – the only team to have beaten an opponent with a better ranking – instead prevailed 1-0 against Arezzo and Sampdoria, punished respectively by goals from Erzen and Langella. Double 2-0 for Milan and Sassuolo, who eliminated Freedom and Cesena with the goals of Stokic and Marinelli on one side and Monterubbiano and Caiazzo on the other.
Inter’s task was much less easy, forced by Parma to extend the match until the 120th minute. After Bugeja’s Nerazzurri lead, the Serie B leaders overturned the result with Kajzba and Rognoni and then conceded a 2-2 draw from Cambiaghi ten minutes into the ninetieth minute. However, in extra time Piovani’s eleven spread thanks to the second goal of the Italian attacker and those of Karchouni and Magull. In the last match of the day, Juventus overwhelmed Hellas Verona 4-0, managing to close the deal in the first 20 minutes of the game with goals from Cantore, Beccari, Boattin and Vangsgaard.
In the quarterfinals Roma will face Napoli, while Inter will face Sassuolo. On the other side of the scoreboard the matches will be Fiorentina-Milan and Lazio-Juventus. The clubs best positioned in the rankings (Roma, Sassuolo, Fiorentina and Juventus) will play the first leg away (14-15-16 January), with the return match taking place two weeks later on reversed pitches.
