Barcelona awaits answers from Frenkie de Jong. The broadcaster claims it Catalunya Radioaccording to which the Blaugrana are still waiting for a “yes” or a “no” from the Dutch midfielder to the contract extension offer. According to some sources within the club culéthe former Ajax player is in fact dragging out this situation without making a statement because he intends to leave on a free transfer when his current agreement expires, i.e. after 30 June 2026.
Today coach Hansi Flick considers him an essential player within his technical and tactical project, but regarding the future of the 1997-born Arkel native – the well-known Catalan radio reiterates – the coach has no guarantees. Relations between De Jong and the Barça management soured when Laporta tried to force his transfer to Manchester United, but was unsuccessful. From there the player’s stay, the injury and a newfound leading role (recently).
This season De Jong has so far made 600 appearances with 200 minutes played. He only started on one occasion, against Red Star in the last Champions League match (5-2 away win), played not only from the 1st minute but also with the captain’s armband on his arm.
