Filip Kostic has been a target of all the biggest clubs in Europe for months. After winning the Europa League as a protagonist in the final in Seville, with Eintracht Frankfurt, it seemed that everyone wanted him as a winger in a five-man defence. His flexibility, being able to be both a defender and an offensive winger, was convenient for anyone. In the end, overcoming the resistance of the German club, Kostic managed to sign for Juventus for a sum close to fifteen million.
And here comes the tactical misunderstanding of a team that Allegri had designed with a three-man defence, only to then remodel it several times. In his first year with the Bianconeri, despite playing 37 games in the league – out of 38 – he didn’t particularly shine, apart from his three goals. In his second year he was used less, also because there had been underlying dissatisfaction already in the first season: the Bianconeri would have sold him for the same amount for which he was purchased, some proposals had arrived but not enough to move the waters.
Last summer, however, it was covertly put on the market. From a certain point onwards it almost seemed like a problem, perhaps due to the salary, so much so that he seemed one step away from Fiorentina, only to then turn to Gosens. “I’m very excited and can’t wait to train with my teammates. Frankly, I wanted to come to Fenerbahçe from day one” his words as Fenerbahce’s new player. Filip Kostic turns 32 today.
