Capello on Inter: “A team that runs this year but sprinted last year”

TMW

Fabio Capello spoke to the microphones of TMW on the sidelines of the press conference to present ‘Sport Movies & TV 2024’, an event staged in the Lombardy Region building. These are his words:

What advice would you give to young people?
“A career as a coach is one thing, that of a journalist is another. As a journalist you go home calmly after the match, when the broadcasts end I always say ‘I won tonight too’. Coaching is difficult, it depends a lot on the presidents and company you deal with, your career is often linked to a ‘stick in or stick out’, therefore to luck”.

An opinion on Inter at the start of the season?
“A simple thing: a team that runs this year but sprinted last year. If you don’t sprint you don’t achieve results, last year it was impossible for Inter to score. Everyone came back quickly. Now there are some small problems but there are time to fix it.”

The Scudetto race?
“We can’t cancel Inter, but Napoli will be a difficult opponent to beat. An excellent coach with excellent players who have found their desire again.”

How do you see the Italians in the Champions League? Can they get to the bottom?
“I would say Inter above all, they are the most complete team with a large squad and substitutes almost at the level of the starters. You have to be careful, they are the best equipped team, I think this year they want to focus a lot on the Champions League.”

How do you see Monza-Milan?
“I saw Monza yesterday with Atalanta, they disallowed a goal for which it’s not clear why. It will be a family derby, the memories of Berlusconi against Berlusconi’s team.”

Rafa Leao’s difficult moment?
“Everything has already been said. A player with great qualities but a little lazy. Laziness must be fought by making him understand that he can be a great player but if he continues like this he will remain a great unfinished player.”
