The Italian derby between Inter and Juventus will soon come to life and will catalyze the attention of Italian football fans and beyond, but at the Nerazzurri home the topic of the new stadium continues to be very topical outside the playing field, with President Giuseppe Marotta confirming the intention of the two clubs (Inter and Milan) to build a new stadium near the current San Siro.
The notary Carlo Marchettimember of the Board of Directors ofIntergave an interview to La Repubblica (Milan edition) in which he also spoke about this topic, as well as his Nerazzurri faith.
As well as being a fan of Inter, you are a member of the board of directors. Your first Nerazzurri memory?
“The days of waiting for the matches in Europe as a child. I would wake up, lay my scarf on the bed, read the sports pages of my dad’s newspapers. Then promptly we would lose against Real Madrid.”
Best moment as an Inter fan?
“A trip to England. Aston Villa-Inter with my uncle Michele. He’s no longer here either, I miss him a lot. My father is an anxious Inter fan, he was an explosive stadium companion.”
The most painful?
“The Champions League semi-final with Milan in 2003. But two years ago we caught up.”
What do you think of the stadium theme?
“I hope San Siro stays. And it’s fine to share it with Milan. We are cousins who have always lived together.”
Should the Meazza be saved even if it will never be played again?
“Not necessarily. Good things can live on in the memory.”
