Alexander Arnold believes in the feat: “I want to be the first full-back to win the Ballon d’Or”

Trent Alexander-Arnold is currently at a crossroads in his young career. The English right-back, having reached the age of 26, must decide whether to remain at his childhood club or whether to cut the umbilical cord and move elsewhere. His contract with Liverpool will in fact expire in June and the player has not yet made a decision on his future, despite Real Madrid’s interest.

Alexander-Arnold dodged every possible question about this, but in the interview given to Sky Sports UK he revealed what his are personal goals that he intends to achieve in his career. Some viable, others probably complicated dreams to realize: “What do I prefer between the World Cup and the Ballon d’Or? Winning a World Cup with England would be immense and would change the game, but I would say winning a Ballon d’Or, because I believe to be able to do it. I want to be the first full-back to do it.”

He didn’t hide, not even in front of the pressures that could rain down on him after a statement like this: “I believe it. Some might call me deluded, but I believe I can do it.” While asked how he would like to be considered in 20 years: “A football legend. Someone who changed the game: this is the most important thing for me: Not playing, but changing the game. This is the legacy I want to have : To be the greatest right back to ever play football, if I’m honest, I know there have been many out there, but I have to reach for the stars and that’s where I think my ceiling can be.”

Concluding with one life lesson: “It doesn’t matter how many trophies and medals you win, it’s about what you’ve given to the game and whether you’ve reached your potential. I’ve heard about potential since I was six… if you reach that potential and you know you have given everything to maximize it and be the player you know you can be, which is one of the best ever, then you will be happy. No matter how many trophies you win.”
