FIGC-Serie A agreement for the change of the statute on autonomy and agreement of the leagues

(ANSA) – ROME, OCTOBER 23 – In this morning’s meeting in Rome between the president of the Football Federation, Gabriele Gravina, and the members in view of the reform of the federal statute which will take place in the next assembly on 4 November, a document shared by all parties which regulates the autonomy and agreement of the leagues. Specifically, the organizational autonomy of the championships is recognized as long as the changes do not affect the other components (for example, Serie C can change the number of teams that access the playoffs but without changing the number of promotions). The novelty, compared to Friday’s meeting, is that on Abete’s proposal, the right of agreement, which the federation wanted to recognize to all the Leagues, was recognized only to the Serie A on those matters of specific competence of the maximum League (such as national licenses or the list of non-EU citizens).

According to the federation, it is a way to recognize the top Italian championship for its leading role in the football movement. However, the issues relating to the electoral weight of the components which will be discussed on 28 October during the federal council which will have to produce the definitive proposal to amend the statute to be voted on in the assembly on 4 November were not addressed.
