Bologna doesn’t play badly, but gives way to Aston Villa. Second knockout in the Champions League

Nothing to do, not even the third turns out to be good for Bologna and his desire to bring home the historic, first victory in the Champions League. The second consecutive match on English soil, after the one at Anfield against Liverpool, brings another knockout for Italiano and his boys. After an hour of almost good workmanship by the Emilians, Aston Villa came out on top and took advantage of a quick and lethal one-two in the space of ten minutes: first McGinn with a mocking free kick, then Duran with a close range shot from a bird of prey, at Villa Park ends 2-0 for Emery and his team.

The tune is always the same: Bologna don’t play badly, but they aren’t very dangerous too often and don’t know how to capitalize on the situations they create to the maximum. This is Mr. Italiano’s comment at the end of the match: “We all need to give something extra, try to take care of all the details. The conditions for scoring are there, we need to raise the percentages up front. We have too few points in the championship compared to our performances, just like in the Champions League. Not having scored is really a shame, we will try to do something else in the second half. We also changed a little bit, trying to still have confidence will give us some satisfaction.”

Skorupski and Orsolini also echo thisboth of whom spoke post-match. “The goalkeeper, for example, says: We’re a bit frustrated because we play well but we don’t take advantage of the situations. We had a good first half but we have to be more aggressive in front of goal even if they had Martinez who is very strong.” The attacker isn’t too satisfied either: “I don’t know if it’s their merit or our demerit that I couldn’t find any space. We’re trying to do something but our opponents are also there and they’ve put us in great difficulty.”
