Atalanta, Carnesecchi: “Team defensive performance, a deserved point”

Atalanta drew 0-0 against Celtic in the Champions League, a result which, considering the numerous chances created, might seem disappointing. However, Marco Carnesecchithe Nerazzurri goalkeeper, spoke to Sky Sport, highlighted the positive aspects of the match, focusing on the team’s solid defensive performance.

It was a match in which Atalanta dominated possession, creating many scoring opportunities, but failing to deliver. How is this result evaluated?
“It was a match in which we attacked a lot, creating several chances, but without managing to score. The risk of suffering a defeat was real, but we managed to avoid this thanks also to the saves. Ultimately, we can be satisfied with this point “.

Atalanta showed great defensive solidity, keeping a clean sheet for the third consecutive match in the Champions League. How can this performance be explained?
“We played a great match, especially from a defensive point of view. It was a team effort, not only of the defenders, but of all the players, from the attackers to the wingers. When everyone collaborates in the defensive phase, it becomes very difficult for the opponents create scoring chances. I only remember one Arsenal chance from a set piece in the three games. This shows our defensive solidity and our physical condition.”

You have become Atalanta’s starting goalkeeper in all competitions. How did you experience this change compared to last year, when there was an alternation with Musso?
“It’s a great responsibility, but also a great opportunity. You always have to be in top shape, both on and off the pitch. Playing many matches helps you maintain optimal physical and mental condition. Even though there may be matches in which you don’t he is at the top, the experience he has accumulated allows him to compensate. Rui Patricio is a great goalkeeper and a fantastic person, an incredible experience for the whole team. He is fundamental for us and, if he were to play, he would be ready at his best.”
