Avellino, sporting director Aiello: “The path is the right one, but we haven’t done anything yet”

Mario Aiello, sporting director of Avellino promoted by Primavera after the technical change of the last few weeks, gave a very long interview to the microphones of First TV. These are his words reported by TuttoAvelinno.itwe start from the victory at Juventus NG: “It wasn’t an easy match in Biella, looking at the table one might have thought that it would have been a walk in the park, as the result also suggests, for those who didn’t see the match. Juve Next Gen is a team that has important individual values, with many young people who will make their way in my opinion. At the moment it hasn’t gelled yet but I think we can recover. We had a good first half, creating several scoring opportunities, then in the after the restart we suffered a bit, but that’s okay, we also showed that we know how to suffer, then we ended the match in the best possible way, with many characters who have made the history of football who were present also from experiences in the past. For the rest they were so concrete about what we had to do on the pitch that the rest takes second place.”
On the match: “We can’t think of being able to dominate every match, there was a phase where they took the upper hand a bit, but we didn’t concede many scoring opportunities. That’s fine, we came out well from that moment, and it shows growth also from a mental point of view.”

The role of director?
“I took over when the club made a radical choice. We didn’t ask ourselves many questions. They called us the night after the match against Latina, in the morning we took office and decided what to do. We tried to understand the problems that existed. The young players we launched? We had an identikit and a path taken in the Spring with the young people and at the moment they are giving us a hand and will certainly help us in the future too.”

Redan?
“He is a potentially strong player, with different characteristics compared to the other attackers in the squad. We are waiting for him, he is an Avellino asset and we have every desire to enhance him and put him in a position to be a protagonist too. I am seeing him a lot better in training. He is a striker who is good at freeing himself, he just needs to score and I think he will do it soon. I think Biancolino has spoken clearly, he has 26 players at his disposal, everyone can have their say trying to put him in place and integrate into the coach’s game. He’s strong in the depth attack, he’s quick, he just needs to grow.”

Region?
“Since we arrived, he is a player who has always given maximum availability, he transmits calm, charisma, determination, it was one of the first elements we focused on. Enrici is giving us a lot, he is a boy who is behaving very well, he is young and can grow a lot. Frascatore full back? We had Liotti and Cancellieri out for Turris, Biancolino decided to use him as a full back, he did very well and now he is continuing with this choice, it is a role he had already played in the youth team Rome”.

The night after Latina and D’Agostino’s call?
“I don’t have anything in particular to say. I experienced the aftermath, once the decisions on Pazienza and the technical area had been made. They contacted me, we talked about what we wanted to do. I said yes to the request, on Sunday morning we were already at work because on Tuesday there was the match against Turris. And nothing, there wasn’t much time to reflect other than trying to get into the heads of these guys, trying to understand what was wrong at that moment. And maybe try to integrate them into a way of playing that we have carried forward from the Primavera. We haven’t done anything yet, we are still eighth, the danger is around the corner, but the results and performances are there.”

The locker room?
“I only entered the locker room on the first day, having a chat. I don’t like getting into the dynamics of the locker room, our role is to work behind the scenes, and check that things are going in the right direction, as in this moment. If I have to say there were difficulties, I say no. I was impressed by the speed with which the team followed the coach’s instructions and this can only be done by strong players and a cohesive group, eager to get back on top.”

Underpants?
“In the Primavera transfer market last January we needed to include a player in midfield with those characteristics and I had chosen him as my first choice. I had seen him with Napoli, in one of the matches I went to watch in the Youth League. He impressed me in a match against Real Madrid because he was one of the very few who kept up with the Spaniards. And I noticed that he didn’t play much at Napoli, so I tried and brought him here immediately he accompanied us until we won the championship. This year he started again with us in Primavera 2, the goal was to gradually bring him to the first team. we made it. It was a difficult negotiation to bring him here, it took about a month, he was a bit disappointed by the experience at Napoli, he wanted to leave Italy, but then we managed to convince him.”

The injured?
“Armellino will be back in the group this week, Toscano was already in the group last week, we will insert him little by little, also because next week there is the midweek round and we need fresh players. Rocca could also join the group tomorrow.”

Cionek’s reinstatement?
“In our opinion, Cionek could be useful in the game system, with a leading role, both as a central defender and as an alternative on the right. Clearly we had to make a choice and it fell on Cancellieri because he was also injured at that moment and then at that juncture Frascatore he established himself as a full-back and with the presence of Liotti there were many slots closed on the left. Cancellieri is a player we respect, we hope he can recover soon and we’ll see what the choices will be between now and January.”
On the transfer market: “In this phase, between now and December, as the president said, our objective is to enhance our players, because they have quality. We need to get as many of them as possible in condition to be useful to the cause. Llano is training well and is monitored.”

Chancellors?
“At the moment we want to get him back, he is involved with the whole group in training anyway. Let’s monitor for a moment what things to do and then we’ll see.”

Young people on loan?
“The issue of the boys on loan is the continuation of the club’s project that began 5 years ago. When the players finish their journey in the Primavera there are two paths, the internal one, joining them in the first team, or the loan one. Some players have to complete a maturation process and therefore an experience in Serie D is important. We continue to follow everyone, even those who are on loan, who are around ten, and perhaps bring them back to the first team.”

Messina?
“I had Mister Modico in Cava, he has a Zemanian interpretation of football and if the team follows him they can be very dangerous. They are drawing a lot, I think it will be a difficult match. Our horizon is Messina. Trapani? We will think about it since Sunday evening”.
