Venezia-Atalanta 0-2, the report cards: Retegui delights, Lookman causes panic

Final result: Venezia-Atalanta 0-2

VENICE (edited by Daniele Najjar

Stankovic 5.5 – Serie A debut for him, not in the simplest of matches. He performs a miracle on De Ketelaere in the first half, then is good on Samardzic in the second half, but he probably could have helped the defense on the occasion of Pasalic’s opening goal by reading the action in advance.

Candle 4.5 – Lookman travels to the area guarded by him and Sagrado (who does not help his companion) and makes them both see stars. Then the mess with Retegui’s doubling which was very costly. He also proposed interesting plays up front, but defensively it was a bad day.

Svoboda 6 – The least guilty of the Venetian defense: he had a good fight with Retegui, a flawless match on his part despite the strong pressure from the opposition.

Idzes 5.5 – A day of suffering for him too due to the Nerazzurri’s offensive gusts. Inaccuracies on some occasions, such as when Retegui takes off in an open field. Lots of freedom for Atalanta to manage the ball even in their own zone.

Sagrado 5 – Complicated match in which to return as a starter. Retegui jumps into his head to take the lead, then gives no support to either the defensive or offensive phases.
From 62′ Haps 5.5 – Enters without making an impact, tries with a sure shot, but is blocked. Some errors also in the cross.

Duncan 6 – One of the few positives, he tries to shake up his team both with words and deeds, always offering support to his teammates. He recovers as many balls as he can and finds interesting tracks for Pohjanpalo.

Nicolussi Ankle 5.5 – He is swallowed up by the Nerazzurri midfield, which literally doesn’t let him breathe. Some good initiatives, but also several lost balls.
From 62′ Yeboah 6 – He comes in well and with the desire to bring liveliness, targeting the opposing defense and offering interesting crosses. Venezia needs him and Oristanio to bring just that.

Ellertsson 5 – Like the others in the department, in the first half he made a great effort due to the total pressing of the Bergamo players: he is the one who pays the most for the breathing down his neck that Ederson and his teammates constantly bring to them. Little filter and little support in the offensive phase.
From 46′ Busio 5.5 – He comes on to bring liveliness back to a midfield that was struggling, he doesn’t find the right starting point or insertion, especially due to Atalanta’s skill in turning the ball around for much of the second half.

Zampano 6 – Another of the few to survive today: he too suffers in defensive retreat, but he holds his own and has the strength to move forward constantly and at the right times. He comes close to scoring when Carnesecchi surpasses himself in the first half.

Oristanio 6 – He confirms his growth: today Venezia’s attack is on his shoulders and he appears decidedly on the ball: he aims, dribbles and finishes. In the end it doesn’t make an impact, but he’s the one who tries with the most conviction.
From 78′ El Haddad sv

Pohjanpalo 5.5 – He fights and takes the lead as much as he can, a complicated afternoon for the orange-green captain, made up more of pursuit than finesse. Perhaps he could have better controlled the ball that Duncan offered him at 0-1.
From 78′ Gytkjaer sv

All. Di Francesco 5.5 – Venezia often alternates between periods of excellent football and phases in which it lacks the right verve and brilliance. Then defensively the lagoon players almost always start from 0-1 due to distractions or goals conceded from free kicks. He tries to change something in the second half, inserting Yeboah, without immediately taking Oristanio off the field. Test that will probably be repeated.

ATALANTA (edited by Paolo Lora Lamia)

Carnesecchi 6 – In the first half he is reactive on Zampano’s close shot, which in fact is Venezia’s only dangerous opportunity. Little else to report in the 90 minutes.

De Roon 6 – Deployed in the defensive trio, he stands out with a couple of enlightening throws for the strikers and for his usual tactical intelligence.

Hien 6.5 – Imperious in the center of the area, he has the upper hand in the confrontation with Pohjanpalo. His race lasts a while. From 46′ Ruggeri 6 – Despite not playing in his role, his recovery is certainly positive.

Djimsiti 6 – He plays a solid game, limiting the dangers for Carnesecchi to a minimum during the match.

Bellanova 6 – Compared to other occasions, he pushes less frequently but does his duty in the containment phase.

Ederson 6 – Some difficulties in containing Oristanio, especially in the first 45 minutes. Overall, not among the most brilliant performances of the season. From 75′ Sulemana sv.

Pasalic 7 – Dream start, with the goal for the immediate lead. For the rest, more dark work than lights on.

Zappacosta 6 – A perpetual motion in the left lane, bringing forward many balls which he then puts in the middle. Better in the first half of the game.

De Ketelaere 6.5 – Despite not emerging like his teammates, he has his foot in much of Atalanta’s actions. From 68′ Samardzic 6.5 – He entered with the right attitude, coming close to making it 0-3 in the final part of the match.

Retegui 7.5 – The national team’s center forward is in great shape and it shows in every action. Pasalic’s 0-1 was auspicious and he came close to doubling twice, which he found at the start of the second half with a delicious lob. From 68′ Zaniolo 6 – It acts as an advanced reference, being noticed more in the finishing phase than in the final phase.

Lookman 6.5 – He creates panic starting from the left, also hitting the crossbar in the first half of the game. From the 46th minute Cuadrado 6 – Gasperini gives him a chance in the second half and the Colombian appears to be in good condition, despite sometimes being selfish.

Gian Piero Gasperini 7 – A hot cycle of matches between the championship and the Champions League begins in the best possible way. The game was put on ice with two goals at the start of both halves, in which there were very few moments of suffering.
