After the announcement of his farewell to football a few weeks ago, Raphael Varane he has already found a new position. The former Real Madrid defender, in fact, officially joins the Como board of directors with the role of consultant for youth development, education and innovation. This is the note from the Como club on the matter:
“Como 1907 is pleased to announce the appointment of Raphaël Varane as a member of the Board of Directors.
A few weeks after his retirement from playing football, Varane will begin a new journey off the pitch bringing his experience and leadership to this new role.
Varane will collaborate with Osian Roberts, head of Development of Como 1907, and Juliette Bolon, head of the educational program, working on development projects for the Como youth sector.
His work will benefit not only the players, but also the community: Varane in fact intends to work to help young athletes grow beyond football. By integrating academic training, leadership development and professional growth within youth programs, Varane aims to help young athletes prepare for life beyond football.
In addition to focusing on youth and education projects, combining technology and innovation, Varane will advise on Como 1907’s product development strategy. From improving digital solutions to enhancing data analytics platforms and ticketing systems, Varane will help drive the Como club in the process of evolving operating systems and improving fan engagement.
“We are pleased to welcome Raphaël to our board of directors,” said President Mirwan Suwarso. “His successes, combined with his interest in youth and education, align with our goals for the future of Como 1907. We are confident that his experience will contribute to the success and growth of our players and our community” .
On his new role, Varane said: “Being a high-level athlete involves joy, sacrifice and the constant desire to overcome one’s limits.
Throughout my career, I have been motivated by the desire to improve and work towards excellence. The transition from the field to the board of directors is not the end of my football journey, rather it marks a new beginning that I can’t wait to face. Joining the board of directors of Como will allow me to continue to give my contribution to this sport and try to shape its future.”
Varane added: “This new phase of my career can be defined as a rebirth, not an end. I’m not saying goodbye to football. Joining the Como 1907 Development Committee excites me and I can’t wait to be part of an ambitious project that coincides with my values. Together, we will invest in youth development, expand educational opportunities and renew operational solutions to realize the club’s vision.”
Varane’s appointment comes at a time when Como 1907 is working on long-term development, combining tradition with a commitment to development and innovation.
