Gianluca Rocchireferee designator for Serie A, spoke to Sky Sports touching on the topic of subjectivity on the part of the referees, going into detail on the issue regarding the expulsion of Francisco Conceicao of Juventus against Cagliari due to the second yellow card for alleged simulation:
“There is always a part of subjectivity in referees. You have the right to criticize even from your point of view. I am convinced that we will never find ourselves in agreement, nor within our group. Simulations and accentuation? The warning to Conceiçao was excessive. It’s not a penalty, but you don’t penalize anyone who is running either. In a simulation, there shouldn’t be any contact at all clear scoring opportunity in doubt from yellows, but the health of the players is involved in the serious foul play.”
The Dodo-Theo Hernandez episode in Fiorentina-Milan?
“Whoever gets there first wins. Dodo has the right to play the ball first obviously. You have to give the VAR guys an idea: if two players get to the ball and one catches the other, they have to evaluate whether there is a foul or just one contact. I told the boys two things: be careful about exaggerations about contacts and reactions and they must understand the dynamics of a foul. Gudmundsson-Guendouzi is a foul with imprudence for example. We can talk about leaving the process to the intentions. but it’s difficult for a referee to understand whether you wanted it or not. The referees already have negligence and imprudence in their heads.”
