Brazil is back, the coach makes you dream: “We could even have better matches than the one against Peru”

Chile and Peru destroyed, so the Brazil he took his revenge. In the last victory complete with poker on the Blanquirroja in Brasilia, the technician Dorival Junior the whole audience applauded Selection which finally gave a shake-up to the 2026 World Cup qualifying rankings, moving to third place and tied with Bielsa’s Uruguay on 16 points: “I’m happy because we tried to do everything we trained on and we have been working on. We have to realize that we are a group in progress and that we have to make adjustments. The team changes as the competition progresses. It is a fact that we could even have better games than the one against Peru.”

From the post-match press conference, however, Dorival acknowledged the difficulties encountered in the face of such a rigorous defensive system like that of Peru before taking off: “It was a first half in which Peru defended themselves to the bitter end, while we tried in every way to score. The match wasn’t fluid until Brazil opened the scoring. Our opponents exposed themselves more and things started to go in our favor. We rushed in some situations, the flow of the ball was slow, but then we had more space to work with the movements and the transitions we had tried.”

How many steps forward though in the attacking zone: “In most of the matches we held our own with the defence, what we lacked were the deep attacks, which we saw here at the Mané Garrincha. We really wanted the ball to be at the players’ feet first. Now we have worked a lot on infiltrations and attacking movements. This gave us more depth and was perhaps our biggest advantage in this match,” he added.
