Reina crowns Nico Paz: “He’s really cool. I hope he becomes the next global star”

What do you remember about your successes with Spain?
“Playing for Spain was something extraordinary. We won two European Championships and a World Cup in a row, something that may never happen again.”

Why is he wearing the number 25 shirt?
“It was assigned to me when I arrived at Villarreal, then my first daughter was born on the 25th, so I have always kept that number.”

What is your daily routine?
“I wake up, take the kids to school, get to training, have breakfast, a session with the physiotherapists, gym, training, lunch, then I pick the kids up from school and dedicate the rest of the day to the family.”

What team did you support as a child?
“Barcelona”.

What is the memorable match you will never forget among those you have played?
“The Champions League final against Milan in 2007, although it’s a big regret not to have won. The semi-final against Chelsea was also extraordinary (Liverpool won on penalties, ed.). The atmosphere at Anfield was incredible.”

Who are your favorite players?
“Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, fantastic.”

“Lionel Messi”.

“Celebrating the World Cup win in Madrid after returning from South Africa. There were more than a million people. Seeing the whole country united was incredible.”
