Napoli, Conte’s ‘treasure’ Politano: the most used striker can find the national team again

Antonio Conte has found the equalizer for his Naples. It’s about Matteo Politanoa precious wildcard for the right lane where he can be seen dedicating himself to both defensive tasks and accompanying the Neapolitan maneuvers. Not surprisingly, as underlined by the Corriere dello Sportwith 654 minutes on the pitch he is the fifth most used player in the squad but is the first among the attackers.

Politano has become irreplaceable and with the change of formation, the inclusion of McTominay and the transition to 4-2-4 in the active phase, his is a key role because based on his movements it allows the team to stretch out in the open field and regroup in a sort of 5-3-2 with the winger on the defenders’ line to close any gaps. A tactical intuition that Conte was able to experiment with by counting on the full availability of Politano, who would play anywhere to be useful to the Salento coach.

From the blue of Napoli to that of the national team
The consistency of performance with Napoli could be a hook to regain the call-up to the national team. Politano hopes so, it is one of his objectives already during this season. His last appearance was almost a year ago, on November 20, 2023, 19 minutes against Ukraine in the European Championship qualifiers. Spalletti knows him well, they won a championship together. His role at Napoli, combined with his availability shown with Conte, can also be useful to fit well into the new tactical ideas of the Italy coach. It’s up to him to continue like this.
