Lupo: “The Tacopina of Venice is not the same as SPAL. But I hope it recovers”

TMW Radio

During today’s live broadcast of To All Cregistered transmission TMW Radio and dedicated to the world of Serie C, spoke on Sports Director Fabio Lupowho, immediately at the beginning, addressed the news story involving the Padova striker Michael Liguori, sentenced in first instance to 3 years and 4 months in prison for sexual violence: “It’s a tile that wasn’t needed. If we want to trivialize , also from a technical point of view, because Liguori himself had been decisive in the big match against Vicenza and seemed to have found the continuity that he had lacked in his career and which prevented him from reaching more important stages. The sentence now leads to problems also of a moral nature, news like this will interfere in many aspects, not only individual but also team-wise. However, the squad is strong and will be able to absorb such a situation.”

Padova is also one of the candidates for promotion. Will it be head to head with Vicenza or will Renate be the third wheel?
“The Padova-Vicenza head-to-head match will take place, but Renate will be able to cause trouble because they don’t have pressure but they have a coach, Foschi, who knows how to create pressure, always keeping concentration high: they will be able to be protagonists until the end, and the Serie C teaches this, surprises are always possible. I think maybe also Trento, Lumezzane, Alcione, they will be the teams that will cause trouble, without forgetting Triestina, who have a ranking well below their potential.”

The controversy linked to the bench is also causing quite a stir in Triestina…
“That there is no clear sporting and general direction, I dare say, seems quite striking to me. And when there is confusion, when there is fog, it is difficult for the ship to arrive in port, it gets bogged down, unless it if you are very lucky and you get to shore without even realizing it: there is a risk of having bad accidents.”

SPAL is also struggling. However, Tacopina did well in Bologna and Venice, how do you explain this moment of tiredness among the Este family?
“I involuntarily said it before, when there is confusion in a club, when the roles are not clear and you live from day to day, the results are the same. The Tacopina I met in Venice is unfortunately not the same person as Ferrara , a square for which I have so much affection: I don’t think the problem was so much the impact but rather the fact that, at least in my opinion, he surrounded himself with people who didn’t advise him in the right way. And I’m not talking about the Este organization chart But it’s always easy to be at the emperor’s court, since it’s him who collapses, the others flee through the corridors of the castle: the king often becomes naked, as in Joe’s case. However, I hope they come out of this moment soon. to rebuild what the fans and the city deserve.”

There are many clubs in Group B that coexist with complex corporate situations: it is never easy to find the right situation.
“Serie C is a swamp, especially if you have been in the higher category for a long time: finding the right solution is never easy, but you often find it by finding the right coach. We were talking about Foschi before, what he did with Lecco is below everyone’s eyes, and this year Pescara has found the right technical and character guide: Baldini has given the team a great shake-up, he has given back the right stimuli, a certain structure, it is clear that there is also an important management structure , because it’s not enough to pay salaries, the results come when there is a certain amount of work behind it: good staff and that’s it doesn’t work. There are good teams, and I believe that Ternana and Perugia, having found a certain linearity, will be able to have their say. If I have to choose, I always prefer a strong club with a weak team than the opposite, because the team then becomes strong.”

Another thorny issue is that of quick exemptions: isn’t eight days a bit short to disavow a project?
“We often start with the idea of making a bet that we aren’t even convinced about, we perhaps hire a young coach or one from Serie D to save something on his salary and then we dump him immediately because we don’t believe in him: but yes back to coherence, if I make a choice, I have to believe in it, and the same goes for all categories, even for Serie A, where someone like De Rossi was sacked after 4 days. A sensational mistake, which however is made sooner or later we do it later. There is too much inconsistency and superficiality in the choice, situations dictated by incompetence, we are in the age of internet barbarism where everyone thinks they know a coach just because they see him on the web. Yet there are interesting coaches, I think to Fabio Prosperi from Pianese, who did well in D and is now confirming himself in C. But they must be followed, live, studied and known. To do this, competence is needed, but the managerial level is being lost a little.”
