Another friendly for Soncin’s Italy: on 2 December they face Germany in Bochum

After the friendlies against Malta, at the Tre Fontane in Rome on Friday 25 October (6.15 pm, Rai Sport) and Spain, at the Romeo Menti in Vicenza on Tuesday 29 (6.15 pm, Rai 2), the Italia Femminile have scheduled a third friendly match to close 2024 is valid as preparation for next summer’s European Championship. This is the note from the FIGC:

The Azzurre’s 2024 will end on Monday 2 December at 8.30pm at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion in Bochum, which will be the setting for the match against the hosts Germany. After the home friendlies on 25 and 29 October against Malta and Spain, Italy will therefore visit the fourth force in the FIFA Ranking.

This will be the thirtieth match between the two national teams: the previous ones smile on the Germans, who have won sixteen times, winning the nine most recent matches (the last one took place in 2018). The Azzurre have won on five occasions, with eight draws, including the 0-0 draw in 1992 which saw the National Women’s team play for the first and only time at the ‘Olimpico’ stadium in Rome.

Also worth remembering is the match that never took place in 2020: the two teams should have faced each other in the Algarve Cup final, but Italy was forced to abandon Portugal due to the start of the pandemic. That day the German footballers wrote a beautiful sports page, rejecting the victory out of hand and sharing the trophy with their Italian colleagues.”
