Tragedy in Athens. The Panathinaikos footballer George Baldock he was found dead inside his swimming pool at his home. The player was only 31 years old and had no health problems. The alarm was raised by his wife who, not yet resident in the Greek capital, had tried to call him on more than one occasion but, receiving no response, she alerted the manager of the villa. Arriving on site, the latter made the terrible discovery.
The defender arrived in green and white this summer from Sheffield United (where he had played 219 games) and had collected four appearances this season, including one in the Europa League. Born in Buckingham in England, he has worn the shirt of the Greek national team since 2022 with 12 appearances in total. According to what was gathered by the Greek press, he was found with a half-empty bottle of vodka next to him with the authorities saying that an investigation will be launched.
Most likely the Greek national team’s match against England should be postponed even if we are waiting for official communications.
