Accidents in the Madrid derby, Atletico’s corner closed. The club: “We will appeal”

Three games with the lower part of the south curve closed. This is the penalty forAtletico Madrid for the incidents that occurred in the derby against Real which forced the referee to temporarily suspend the match. There are two sectors that will remain closed, 127 and 133. However, the Colchoneros have announced the appeal: “Atlético de Madrid reiterates its condemnation for the incidents that occurred during the match against Real Madrid.

Our club maintains a zero tolerance policy against violence, prosecuting any demonstration of this nature and applying the sanctions provided for in our internal regulations to those involved. Our collaboration with the authorities is permanent and, in the case in question, we collaborated with the Police from the moment the facts occurred to identify the people involved, three of whom have already been permanently expelled as members of the club. Our Security Department continues to collaborate with the Police to identify the other individuals involved in the throwing of objects, who will also be permanently expelled as soon as they are found.

On the other hand, once we have analyzed the resolution of the Competitions Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation which imposes the partial closure of the lower south end (sectors 127 to 133) of our stadium for three matches, we believe that the sanction damages a large number of fans who had nothing to do with what happened and who showed exemplary behavior. We believe that the unacceptable behavior of a few cannot lead to such excessive punishment towards a large majority who have committed no crime. The biggest loser for everything that happened is Atletico Madrid and its fans and those responsible for this are those involved in throwing objects, who are the ones who should be punished and not the rest of the fans, who have amply demonstrated their good behaviour. For this reason we believe it is appropriate to challenge this sanction before the Appeal Committee”.
