Manchester City sporting director, Txiki Begiristainis expected to leave the club at the end of this season. To launch the indiscretion The Athleticwhich said the Spanish manager had initially planned to retire from day-to-day operations when he turned 55, but was so involved in City’s project and working alongside manager Pep Guardiola that he extended that role until his 60th birthday.
The moment arrived last August, a choice made with full awareness and approval of the English club’s hierarchy. But there’s more: the newspaper states that the company of Sky Blues has reached an agreement to appoint a replacement who will take up the role in early 2025. And Begiristain himself has collaborated personally to select his successor, who will continue to carry out his duties during a period of handover for the first six months.
The current sporting director of the cizitens he joined the club in 2012. After taking over City in 2016, however, Guardiola spent honeyed words to highlight the importance and Begiristain’s work done to bring Pep to City: “If Txiki had worked for Chelsea, I probably would have called Chelsea.”
