Lumezzane, Monachello: “This group is special, it reminds me of my Mantua”

Gaetano MonachelloLumezzane striker, was interviewed by TuttoC.com: “I’m feeling very comfortable in this group because it’s as if I’ve been here for a long time: everyone welcomed me very well and a great chemistry was immediately created between us. It doesn’t feel like I’ve been here for a few months but for many We’ve been working well here for years, there is a powerful ownership structure and a strong presidency. I’m happy to be part of this group, we hope to get some great satisfaction.”

You’ve just returned from a heavy goal against Arzignano.
“It was a very tough match and I’m happy to have resolved it. Before the goal, however, for me the important thing is to work for the team. The performances are there and, in fact, the start of the championship has been positive. For one tip, however, the net is the best medicine. I hope to be able to continue to help to obtain the necessary points in order to save ourselves as soon as possible, and then think about something bigger.”

What relationship do you have with the coach?
“He is a great coach, strong and expert. Over the years he has made an extraordinary journey, bringing the team back to the professional ranks and immediately qualifying for the playoffs. He is giving me a lot, he made me feel at ease straight away. He is also exceptional as a person , I hope I can repay him because he deserves a lot, he behaves well with all of us and he immediately made me feel important.”

The rossoblù group seems really close-knit, this could make the difference.
“Last year in Mantua no one believed that we could win the championship but we did it because there was a beautiful group. I see some affinities with the current group, here too there is unity and we try to help each other not only when things are going well but also in the less good moments. I believe very much in the strength of the group and it is no coincidence that things have gone well so far. Now, however, we continue to work with humility, trying to leave our mark in this championship, to ensure respect Lumezzane and the club that is working so well.”

Before the summer you won the championship with Mantova.
“A beautiful and unexpected victory, no one had predicted that success. But the great corporate organization and the great organization on the pitch allowed us to get to first place. I remained tied to the place also for non-football matters: my daughter was born there, I left behind many friends.”

What do you expect on a personal level?
“Simply not to have any problems, given that I had some problems with my back and other small problems that made me lose some time. But I have never given up and I don’t intend to do so now: I hope it will be a good season in first on a team level and then also on a personal level.”

What are your thoughts on this group?
“Very difficult like every year because there are very strong teams and the usual big surprises. Among the big ones I’ll put Padova, Vicenza, Triestina, Feralpisalò and maybe I’ll forget some. I also like Novara who for me are really strong and watch out for Trento. the reality is that there are many strong teams and anything can happen: the last one can beat the first one and the first one can lose to all of them. We must never let our guard down.”

Long career and many shirts worn: you have great experience.
“Having traveled a lot has paid off a lot: I have grown a lot over time, especially in the North. For me, being Sicilian, having left home at the age of 12 led me to mature quickly. On a human level you have to learn quickly otherwise you’ll stay outside. Having toured Italy has allowed me to get to know many cities and also different football cultures. I am aware of having to help the younger ones grow and I think I am on the right path: I always make my wealth of experience available.”
