Asteras Tripolis, Makelele: “No one can tell me who to play and who not to play, I’m leaving”

Less than a month after his appointment, the former Real, PSG and Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele he already leaves Asteras Tripolis. The French coach, who led the team for three matches (1 win and 2 draws), can no longer tolerate the managers’ interference in sporting decisions.

“They promised me total control over the team,” the former midfielder explained to LondonWorld. “I had to be the one to decide who would play and who wouldn’t. I wasn’t in charge of transfers. If you want to fire me because the results aren’t good, that’s fine. This is football. But I don’t want anyone to tell me who should play or not” , said the former French midfielder.

“In the last match, they insisted that a key player (Darnell Eric Bile, ed.) be on the bench. The player has an amateur team salary, but he is the best in the team. I brought him in for just 20 minutes, he made two assists and we won. They didn’t want him to play. They thought they could decide whether he played or not because he hadn’t signed a new contract,” confided Makélélé, now free on the coaching market . We are only waiting for a press release to formalize the divorce between the parties.
