Roma women, Giugliano: “Wolfsburg? We will have to exploit the spaces they will leave us”

Manuela Giuglianocaptain of Roma Femminile, spoke at a press conference on the eve of the first match of the Group Phase of the UEFA Women’s Champions League against Wolfsburg. These are his words reported by vocigiallorossa.it

“Wearing the captain’s armband is certainly an honor and a privilege. It’s not just about wearing it in the Champions League or in the championship, but about doing it with the Roma shirt. For me it’s a source of great pride and I’m very happy to be able to cover this important role, trying to do my best for Roma, for my teammates and, last but not least, for myself. As for the 12-0 overall, I think it was simply a bad day granted; it’s clear that Wolfsburg is a strong team, so we can do it. However, I think it was just a bad day.”

On the progress made by the team?

“It is clear that the team has made considerable progress. When you face very strong opponents, it is inevitable that you improve your characteristics, gain experience and become more aware of your abilities. Therefore, I believe that the team has grown a lot from this point On a personal level, my growth is proportional to that of the team; if the team improves, it is natural that I also grow. At the moment, I am completely focused on the team. and I can’t stop and reflect on the successes achieved so far, I’m fine, the team also benefits, and vice versa.”

For the Champions League, how did you prepare for this challenge? What did you focus on and what did you study about German women?
“I still remember the two previous matches well: the 1-1 draw at home, in which we played a truly great match, and the return leg, which ended 4-3, if I’m not mistaken (4-2 ed.). Honestly, we had little time to prepare for this match, but I believe that the most important thing for the team is to always remain focused on the goal, we must be ready to exploit the spaces that will be left to us, play our game without fear, and when we have the opportunity to materialize, we must do it in this way we can bring home the victory.”
