Fiorentina, Ranieri: “Even without results we knew we were a great team”

Luca Ranieridefender of Fiorentina, speaks in the press conference after the 2-1 victory over Milan: “Tonight we played a great match, the best of the season. We are happy, but even when the results weren’t arriving we knew that we are a great team. We needed it time to get to know each other better, now let’s train as we are doing. Now the break, then we face Lecce in a big way.”

He conceded the penalty but also made a sensational recovery on Pulisic.
“Unfortunately, the penalty was a bit accidental, I touched Reijnders who I hadn’t seen from behind. Luckily De Gea took care of it, thank goodness about the recovery…”.

Do some refereeing episodes not add up to you?
“The referee can make mistakes, I shouldn’t judge. I can talk about our match and I say that we needed a victory like this, we were truly great tonight.”

Did you say anything to De Gea in the dressing room?
“Already on the pitch we saw with the penalties saved that we all went after him. He’s used to certain emotions, that’s fine. We’re very happy.”

How does the 4-2-3-1 help you?
“The change in formation is bringing results, but it’s not a question of that but of the mentality. For a few games now we’ve been putting the right one in place and so we can play with three, four, five: if you give your all the results come. And wearing the armband against Milan was an incredible emotion.”
