Aston Villa celebrated the return of the Champions League in the best possible way at Villa Park in Birmingham, narrowly beating Bayern Munich thanks to Jhon Duran’s goal, but also thanks to Emiliano Martinezauthor of an excellent match that ended with a well-deserved clean sheet. Seven saves made by the world champion goalkeeper with Argentina, with a performance that reminded many of the exceptional one he starred in in the 2022 World Cup final against France.
Even ‘El Dibu’ himself compared these two matches and, more specifically, the very famous save on Kolo Muani to one made in yesterday’s match: “It was a beautiful match, we had to win. We continue to dream. People continue to remind me of that save on Kolo Muani. It’s a save that will mark me for life, but I want to continue to improve as a goalkeeper and as a person. And I’m proving it.
What drives me is the desire to continue to grow, to be the best with Aston Villa. I intended to play in the Champions League and I succeeded. With a national team like this I have no limits. I want to continue growing. We played against one of the favorites like Bayern and we showed that we can compete, especially at home. This should give us further confidence, but not take us to a place where we don’t belong yet.”
