Serie C, Marani and infrastructure: “Institutions help little even those who want to invest”

TMW Radio

Guest of the Florentine studios of TMW Radio the president of the Lega Pro, Matteo Marani touched on the topic of infrastructure in the world of football. In Serie A as in Serie C.

“This is a very thorny and delicate topic – he explained during the ‘A Tutta C’ broadcast -, of our entire panorama where we certainly have difficulties, the systems are the worst situation. In Serie A the average age of the facilities was over 70 years, there are squares that have stadiums that were built for the 1934 World Cup. I’ll reflect with you, here there is a very serious responsibility of the public administration, I am thinking of the municipalities, the regions and the state. Very little has been done to help, I agree as a principle that there must be standards to participate in the championships, in England reforms have been made which have led to enormous investments in infrastructure.

I have met presidents who told me they were ready to build a stadium with private investments, but they often find themselves having to discuss with administrations that change every four years. If a president does badly, he is responsible for his own, but if he has the misfortune of being in a particularly unfortunate municipality it is difficult to blame him. Then you go to Albinoleffe and there is an extraordinary stadium, but the stadium issue is painful and it is a problem for the entire country system, it is not just football that has not worked. It’s not just the issue of the Sunday system, but also the youth sectors. The clubs tell us that they don’t have fields to train in, we have to stay close to the clubs.”
